On Saturday, June 6th, the vibrant space of Jardín La Roca in the Bronx came alive with community connection, creative learning, and health empowerment. High Hopes For The Bronx hosted our “Seeds of Creativity” Resource Fair and Literacy Event, bringing together local families, community advocates, and partner organizations for a memorable morning dedicated to growth, wellness, and mutual support.
Our goal was simple: to meet our neighbors where they are, listen to their needs, and connect them with vital tools—ranging from early literacy and financial empowerment to immigration resources and health education.
The event marked the official launch of our new initiative, “Better Blood Pressure, Better Bronx.”
Heart health and preventative care are urgent priorities in our community. According to NYC Health data, the Bronx consistently faces higher rates of hypertension, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease compared to the citywide average. In fact, nearly 1 in 3 Bronx adults lives with high blood pressure, and over a third report high cholesterol levels—factors that significantly elevate the risk of heart attack and stroke.
To help bridge this gap, our team was on-site providing free, accessible screenings and hands-on demonstrations:

Nutrition plays a pivotal role in managing cardiovascular health and preventing chronic illness. To explore how accessible, everyday dietary shifts can transform health outcomes, we partnered with Healthy With Plantas.

Together, we shared practical guidance on the benefits of plant-based nutrition, providing attendees with approachable ways to incorporate wholesome, plant-forward meals into their daily lives while respecting cultural food traditions.
Community care extends to supporting the minds and spirits of our youngest residents. Through our partnership with Literacy Inc. (LINC), children and families participated in interactive reading activities designed to foster a lifelong love for learning and creativity.

Throughout the morning, attendees enjoyed:
Events like “Seeds of Creativity” remind us of the strength, beauty, and resilience found when neighbors come together in shared green spaces like Jardín La Roca.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our incredible partners—LINC and Healthy With Plantas—and to every neighbor who spent their Saturday morning with us. Together, we are planting the seeds for a healthier, more empowered Bronx.
